Car parks and underground car parks are almost ideal for autonomous cleaning: the areas are large and contiguous, the obstacles predictable, and at night the site is virtually empty. At the same time, the pressure is real – a dirty car park shapes the impression of a property, shopping centre or district. Autonomous scrubbing and sweeping robots turn the infrequent deep clean into a regular, documented routine.

Why are parking facilities so well suited to cleaning robots?

Because the three biggest cost drivers of manual cleaning fall away here: the area is large (the robot plays to its cleaning rate), the site is empty at night (no need to work around public traffic) and the cleaning repeats identically (routes set up once run permanently). How often should a parking deck be cleaned?

That depends on traffic, season and the operator's standards – from a weekly interval to daily routine cleaning of heavily used levels. The advantage of robotics: a higher frequency does not mean proportionally higher costs, because no staff are tied up per run. We determine the right interval in the concept phase.

What about ramps, columns and barriers?

Columns and fixed installations are uncritical for navigation – they are captured in the map and driven around. Ramps, gradients, barrier areas and traffic routing are checked per site in the site assessment, where we define which levels and zones the robot travels and how it is parked and charged between runs.

Use in underground car parks and on parking decks

Large, open decks with few obstacles are well suited to autonomous cleaning outside peak hours. Operating limits – for temperature and open decks, for example – are clarified per model and site.

Connectivity below ground

As the LionsBot machines are connected via SIM, we check mobile coverage in underground car parks in advance and align the connectivity accordingly.

Frequently asked questions from car park operators

Can the robot clean while the car park is in use?+
The robots detect vehicles and people and give way. For parking facilities we nevertheless recommend cleaning during low-traffic windows – at night or in the early morning. The area is then clear, the result is at its best and traffic routing is uncritical.
Does this also work in a cold underground car park in winter?+
That depends on the model deployed. The exact operating limits – such as the permissible operating temperature – are clarified per site and machine in the site assessment before a concept is finalised. In practice, underground car parks are usually frost-free; open parking decks are checked separately.
Does the site need Wi-Fi or mobile coverage?+
Wi-Fi is not required. The robots run their trained routes independently. On the LionsBot cleaning robots, the cloud connection runs over mobile networks (SIM). Where mobile coverage in an underground car park is limited, we check the connectivity in advance for each site.
Who looks after the machines when no one is on site?+
Through our service package: we monitor the machines via remote monitoring and clear faults remotely. If needed, a technician from our DACH-wide network attends. No on-site staff are required for this.
How quickly can a demonstration on a deck be arranged?+
It starts with a short site assessment: we look at the areas, ramps, traffic routing and the spot for the charging dock. This is followed by a demonstration with clear success criteria on your own floor. We agree the specific timeframe with you after the assessment.
